The Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL)

The Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is a leading HEI in Norway with a history in teacher education dating back to 1839. Enrolling 16,000 students across disciplines like education, health, and engineering, HVL excels in sustainable societal solutions and innovative pedagogy, particularly in creative and arts education. It hosts the Centre for Creativities, Arts, and Science (CASE) and coordinates projects such as the Global Science Opera. HVL’s expertise includes STEAM education, interdisciplinary studies, and participatory research, significantly impacting teacher training. The HVL team, with a vast network, has provided training in Europe and beyond, participating in EU projects and initiatives like CREAT-IT, Write a Science Opera, NEXT STEP, and GSO4SCHOOL. Research activities of particular relevance to Teacher Academy are conducted under the Center for Creativities, Arts and Science (CASE), in which the Global Science Opera is coordinated, in addition to other STEAM projects such as the STEAM Roadmap project SENSE.

Role:  HVL will coordinate the efforts of framework development (WP2). HVL is the coordinator of one of the pillar programmes in STEAM (SENSE.) that develops approaches and a STEAM Roadmap for future funding actions in HORIZON EUROPE and the next framework programme. Will contributing to the development of the training programme and learning material (WP3), to all training activities (WP5) and community building in Norway (WP4). Also, the participation of HVL in the ACT AI Academy, will strongly support the development of the STEAM NEXT STEP Roadmap (WP6). HVL as a university that provides initial training for teachers is highly committed in updating its own education programme with the outcomes of the STEAM NEXT STEP Academy as well as with its accreditation.
